Important Fire Safety Notice

To whom it may concern,

We are writing to inform you of an update to the British Standards regarding fire safety records (BS5839-1:2017).

You are now no longer required to record fire safety checks on paper. Paper fire records are flammable, inaccessible during emergencies and do not encourage compliance.

All schools are recommended to move their fire safety documentation to digital alternatives. You are required to protect your records in the case of any emergency and make important fire safety information accessible to fire rescue services without the need for access to the premises if it is unsafe. This is achieved through a digital fire logbook.

Furthermore, due to recent RAAC, you may also lose access to your important fire safety records if they are still on paper. Moving to digital mitigates this risk.

Tio Fire Safety has become the recommended software supplier of free digital fire records for schools. Tio has already helped institutions such as the Church of England, Cambridge University, Liverpool University, and Manchester Metropolitan University make the change.
